Wow 87 racecars in competition the week before the Summit USRA Nationals, what a great prolog to this upcoming week of racing. Mother Nature decided to give us a challenge before we could even make this night happen. It was a wet Friday Night/Saturday morning. The wind was blowing all day long but the sun, oh how we needed sun, it finally decided to make an appearance at 2:00 P.M. At 2:30 it was time to get to work, the Big A and the pack trucks attacked the pits. Trucks and trailers started arriving at 3:45, driver’s meeting at 6:00, and then we were onto racing.

It was great watching everyone in the pits check out the second level of the catwalk. I-35 Speedway has a second level for everyone in the pits to enjoy a great view of the racing action. You can stand on the east end and see the cars coming at you in turn 3 and going away in turn 4. What a view! A beautiful view!

It also pays to attend the driver’s meeting. Each week we give away a free tenderloin and fries to one lucky driver who is the first to draw a certain number. The number changes each week. This week was the first time the winner was not in attendance so he missed a free meal.

Since this is Summit USRA Nationals week, I will cut this article short. Got a few more things to do at the track before all the racers arrive. Hopefully you have made plans to attend. Practice is Wednesday, Racing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  The excitement for this event is some of the greatest I have been around since the days of the then Craftsmen Truck Races at I-70 Speedway. We look forward to seeing you, this will be an event you will not want to miss.
