Oh what a FUN Night, week 9 at I-35 Speedway! Ninety-two (92) competitors were in the pits to provide the race fans and crews some outstanding close racing. Mother Nature provided us warm temperatures a strong south wind and lots and lots of sunshine, perfect for a summer night. Of course with wind and sun and warm temperatures it creates extra effort on owner Mike Johnson watering the track because the moisture will evaporate quickly. But once again drivers were coming up telling us how great the track was the smoothness and the dry slick which equals out the engines in the cars.

It was super hero night and we had Wonder Woman in attendance. Of course Darla Dixon wanted to know where my phone booth was located since I was wearing my Superman shirt. In today’s world finding a phone booth is nearly impossible. For that matter finding a pay phone is nearly impossible as the cell phone has become a standard accessory.

Speaking of super heroes let’s give a shout out to the great staff of I-35 Speedway. The office staff, Diana and Cheryl, they keep us all organized and sell everyone their ticket to the grandstands. Marty meets everyone at the gate. The main concession staff of Bridgette, Mikaela, Jamie, Jackie, prepare and serve your favorite food or drink. Tammy and Carl will serve the adult beverages and/or your favorite track souvenir. Funnel cakes are prepared and served by Sharon, Heather, and Katie (they also have some other items to settle our sweet tooth). In the suite where the food is hot and there is always a weekly special, Chris, Randy, and Erin will gladly assist you with your order. In the tower how could we do it all without Jacob, Rick, Linda, Mary, and Kylie? On the track we have Mike, Travis, Charles, and Mickey, in lineups we have Gene and Christian, on the flag stand Bob, selling fuel would be Gary, and in tech we have Carl. The gatekeepers would be Leon, Isaac, and Caleb. In the pit concession we are blessed with Kayce. Jessica and Judy freeze the action. The Bridgeman’s and Daviess County Ambulance service wrap our I-35 Speedway Super Hero team!

Now let’s get back to the racing! In my travels I don’t get to see all the races, but I hear the radio comments, I hear the fan comments, and I hear the oohs and awes associated with the track action. For the last three weeks I can tell the racing has been outstanding. I can speak for the A Mod feature what a dandy, catch Rick’s description of the action, it was as described and his voice gets louder and louder in the tower when the action is that exciting!

To all the drivers in attendance this past week thank you, great racing! I-35 Speedway is blessed with some of the best drivers in the area! Congratulations to those who took the checkered first which include Cory Wray, Donnie Brown, Dean Wray, Wyatt Burks, Bud Wilson, Chris Mercer, and Cletus Murray.

Over the next few weeks you will not want to miss any racing. The annual Racing for Rian is June 24, fireworks on July 1, and July 9 we will have Sprint Cars. The fun just continues at I-35 Speedway, ensure you are here to be a part of it all!
