The word for this past weekend of racing is SMOOTH! Both tracks were complimented by the drivers as the smoothest tracks they have ever raced on. This after I-35 Speedway had received 5.5 inches of rain during the week and Lakeside Speedway was experiencing cloudy dreary cold weather for most of the day. Let’s give credit where credit is due, Mike Knight, Mike Johnson, and Gene Stigall we raise our helmets to your track preparation skills.

While we are raising our helmets let’s raise them for those who donated for the nickel drop at both tracks. At Lakeside Speedway Nicole Noll wife of B Mod Driver Ed Noll headed up raising the funds and obtaining the change to give all the children 12 and under to pick up some change. The same event occurred the next night for the children in attendance at I-35 Speedway. The nickel drop is simply the laying of coins across the start finish line and allowing the children to run and grab the change. Also to all those who donated for St. Jude we raise our helmets.

As far as the racing, how about those Stock Cars? Eddie Ingram makes the pass in the last 200 feet to claim the win at Lakeside Speedway, this after two other leaders had spent most of the race battling. Then the next night there were five stock cars racing for the win at I-35 Speedway, those five cars were within a couple of car lengths of each other the entire time.

Has anyone noticed there are new cars racing at Lakeside and I-35 Speedways? The upcoming USRA Nationals will be held October 1, 2, 3, and 4 at Lakeside Speedway. As seasons wind down at other tracks these drivers are coming to test out the track in preparation for four nights of great racing. They want to ensure they have the correct gear selection and desire to learn the track, should make for a great last two weeks of points racing. I-35 Speedway has been the leader in car count almost every night this year. Racers are discovering how greatly prepared these tracks are week in and week out and they want to run on great track.

As the season winds down let’s say a prayer and ask for great weather. Remember both tracks have season ending national events, USRA Nationals at Lakeside and at I-35 Speedway the season ends with the Open Wheel Nationals on October 10 and 11. Make your plans to attend all the racing you can at both tracks because soon the season will be over and we will miss our time together.
